Once in a village, Ramanujan built a grand temple at the center of the village. When the temple was ready, many visitors started reaching the temple to worship. Seeing the grandeur of the temple, people would praise it for its beauty.
With time, the temple became popular. People from far and wide started reaching to the temple to worship and would admire its beauty. Seeing the increasing number of devotees, Ramanujan did arrangements for food and lodging for the devotees in the temple itself.
Now, Ramanujan needed a person who would look after all the arrangements in the temple. So, he put up a notice outside the temple - "Need an administrator."
Seeing this notice, many people started coming to Ramanujan. People knew that if they get the admin job for this temple, then the salary will also be good.
But Ramanujan returned every applicant after interview and would say, "I need a qualified person for this work, who can manage temple properly."
Many people would call him a fool or mad, but he didn't pay heed to anyone's comment and kept on looking for a man to manage the temple. Ramanujan would sit on the roof of his house every morning, watching visitors coming to the temple. One day he saw Hari, a very poor man, wearing torn and dirty clothes, coming to the temple.
When Hari came out of the temple, Ramanujan called him and said, "Will you take care of arrangements for this temple."
Hari was very surprised to hear Ramanujan and with folded hands, he replied, "I am a very poor man, and I am not even educated. How can I manage such a big temple?"
Ramanujan smiled and said, "I don't want any learned man to manage this temple. I want to entrust the management of this temple to a qualified person."
Hari was confused at Ramanujan's words and asked, "But why do you consider me a worthy person among all devotees?"
Ramanujan said, "I know you are a worthy person. I know you are a worthy person." On the way to the temple, I had buried a piece of brick for many days. One corner of which had come out from above.
I was seeing for many days that many people used to stumble from that brick and many people even fell after stumbling from it but no one thought to remove it from there.
You did not stumble from it but still, you saw it and thought of removing it from there. I saw that you took a shovel from the laborer and dug that piece and leveled the land there.
Listening to this, Hari said, "I have not done any great work. It is the duty of every human being to think about others and remove the obstacles that come in the way. I only did what was my duty."
Ramanujan smiled and said, "Only people who know their duty and perform them are qualified people."
Saying this Ramanujan handed over the responsibility of managing the temple to Hari.
Flash: Most of us run away when we're given an opportunity to work for hard-driving, uncompromising deliverables and responsibilities, but that may well be shortsighted. If you can spend time working for a TOUGH situation, do it. It won't be easy, and it might not be pleasant, but it's hard to find a better way to turbocharge your career.
Moral: Your actions are the reflection of your attitude and your personality. You are a mirror of yourself in others. Whatever you want, give. Be the best reflection of yourself. Be nice to yourself and your surroundings/ people/ work.
